SNAG itself collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics and no server. The one exception is the advertising inside the app, which is Google's, and the rest of this page is mostly about that.
What the app does not do
- No account, no sign-up, no profile.
- No analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry. Nothing in the app reports back on what you download or how you use it.
- Links you paste go only to the site the video is on, requested by yt-dlp running on your own phone. They are never sent to me, because there is nothing to send them to. SNAG has no backend.
- Downloaded files are written to the app's own folder on your device and stay there until you move or delete them.
Permissions
SNAG asks for two things: internet access, and the ability to see whether you are online. That is the entire list. It does not ask for storage, location, contacts, camera, microphone or phone state.
Advertising
SNAG shows one banner ad, served by Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK is Google's software running inside the app, and it collects data for Google's own purposes. That typically includes your device's advertising ID, IP address, device model and Android version, and which ads you were shown or tapped.
None of it reaches me. What I can see is Google's aggregate report: how many ads were shown, how many were tapped, and what that earned. There is no way for me to identify a user from it.
Google describes its own handling in the Google Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Your choices about ads
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form appears the first time you open SNAG, and your answer decides whether the ads you see are personalised. You can refuse personalised ads and keep using the app.
Anywhere in the world, Android lets you control this directly: Settings, Google, All services, Ads, where you can delete or reset your advertising ID. Resetting it cuts the link to anything collected before.
This website
snagapp.store is a few static files. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking scripts, and no third-party requests at all: the fonts and images are served from this domain, not from Google or anyone else. The hosting provider keeps ordinary web server logs, such as IP address, time and the page requested, for running and securing the server.
The download button points at GitHub, so if you use it, GitHub serves the file and sees that request under its own privacy statement.
Children
SNAG is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Older versions are in the project's git history, so you can see exactly what changed and when.
